We truly believe the world needs women coaches and change-makers NOW more than ever. To support that, we’re starting a movement called #welovecoaches where we feature coaches from around the world and celebrate the work they do.
Hey there! I’m Robin, a Joy Coach (ICF-certified ACC). I help depleted givers refill their personal joy buckets so they have something to give from. I know what it’s like to put everyone first and neglect my own personal joy, believing others were more important. I have experienced the toll this takes firsthand. I did the work, came out fulfilled & whole on the other side, and now I am in a perfect position to help other givers avoid crashing and burning.
I couldn’t continue to watch wonderful people run themselves into the ground without doing something, so I created joy coaching. Now I work online with people around the world who want to add joy to their self-care, family lives, careers, love lives, health and wellness, and so many other areas. My clients learn to keep their joy buckets full for their own well-being, and it blesses the people and causes they care about.
Share a little about why you choose to be a coach.
I love helping people live their best lives. I have been told that connecting with people is my superpower. I have been an involved wife & mom, college professor, dietitian specializing in eating disorder recovery, church youth group leader and later youth pastor, and life enrichment contributor for the elderly.
When I realized that I have been unofficially coaching people in my path all along, I ran the idea of going to school by my family, my inner circle, and later asked my friends via social media. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with responses like “This is YOU!” “You’re a natural!” and “You’ve been life coaching me for years!” After lots of prayer time, I quit my job on faith, jumped into school, opened my coaching and speaking business, and obtained ICF certification.
Because joy is what I know best, and I recognize how it was the common denominator in the many phases of my life, I am thrilled to help people around the world rediscover joy!
What challenges have you’ve faced as a female coach?
I have found people to be extremely helpful, regardless of my gender. I can’t say that any of the challenges I have encountered as a coach are specifically due to being a female.
How do you stay uplifted, motivated, and inspired to push through and show up every day for your business and your clients?
Being a business owner is not for the uncommitted! The learning curve is enormous. I stay uplifted and focused by keeping my own joy bucket full. I check in with myself and make sure I am meeting my needs, whether I need prayer time, movement, connection with another person, a breather, time outside soaking up something amazing, training, sleep, healthy food, or fun just for the sake of fun. Keeping my joy bucket full keeps me feeling whole and wanting to give, regardless of the challenges of being a business owner.
It is also very important to remember my “why.” I believe I was called to do this and for that reason, I will not give up when times get tough. Joy coaching improves peoples’ lives! Intentionally meditating on the transformations in my clients’ lives can be very motivating. It’s so much fun to think of their breakthrough moments and successes. There are so many! Recalling actual transformation in actual lives can be very inspiring to me.
What are the must-have business tools, apps, or websites you use regularly to make your day productive?
I like to use Zoom, Canva, Trello, Mailchimp, BizXpensTrkr, and Acuity Scheduling. Every one of these was thoroughly researched and selected to meet my needs.
What is on your must-watch/read list and why?
I’ll be honest, I have a mountain of half-finished reads and videos. The only two I make time for without fail are the Bible and Yes Theory videos.
These fill me up and keep me going! But I do have a link on my website to “Same Kind Of Different As Me,” because it is the best book I have ever read.
If you could encourage other women coaches to do one thing in their career, what would it be and why?
Learn to ask for help… and then accept it!
We tend to balance so many things (SO many! Why??) that we forget we don’t have to do it alone. There are people who can lighten your load so you can focus on the things only you can do. If others are better qualified than you are at doing a task, why force it yourself when your gifts and skills are better suited elsewhere?
Asking for help will give you freedom, and it will give other people the satisfaction of contributing.
What’s next for you?
I had to laugh at this question: Only God knows! It is important for me to follow His lead because He always guides me so faithfully.
I would love to expand my speaking circuit because connecting with audiences is so much fun. I am always happy to accept new clients who want to live more joyfully with the guidance of someone who gets what it’s like to be last on the list.
I am toying with the idea of developing a digital course to help people quickly shift into a joyful mindset, maybe by the end of June.
When I am more established, I will definitely be offering weekend retreats!
