How Much Does a Coaching Website Actually Cost? (DIY vs. Templates vs. Custom Design)

I get on a lot of calls with coaches who have no idea what to expect price-wise for a website, and it shows in the strangest way: I can quote the exact same price to three different people on a free website vision call and get three completely different reactions. One thinks it’s outrageous. One thinks it’s spot on. One thinks I’m grossly underselling myself. Same number, three totally different reads, because none of them had a baseline to measure it against.

Here’s the part that doesn’t help you, though: a great many of my clients finish the whole process and tell me they feel like they should have paid more. That’s a nice thing to hear, but it happens after they’ve already chosen to work with me. It doesn’t do a thing for you if you’re still trying to figure out who to trust before you’ve spent a dollar.

So let’s fix that. I break the full pricing picture down in the video below, but the short version is this: DIY, templates, semi-custom, and fully custom all sit at wildly different price points for legitimate reasons, and once you know what those reasons are, you’ll actually be able to tell whether a quote makes sense for you.

I’m Cass. I run Lovely Impact, where I help coaches launch and grow their businesses. This portion of building a coaching business, the website designing portion, is where the entire Lovely Impact vision started, and I’m delighted to start lifting the veil on some of the behind-the-scenes details so many coaches are curious about.

Here’s what we’re covering in this post:

Quick reference: coaching website costs by option

How it’s BuiltTypical Cost
DIYUnder $500
Templates$47 to $1,000+
Semi-Custom (Lovely Impact)$3,850 to $6,850
Fully Custom$5,000 to $15,000+

How Much Does It Cost to DIY a Coaching Website?

DIYing your coaching website typically costs under $500 total. Platforms like WordPress, Showit, and Squarespace all run on hosting plans, so you’re looking at your hosting cost plus your domain. Maybe you grab a theme to give yourself a starting structure. Add it up and most DIY builds land under that $500 mark.

That’s the appeal of DIY. You save the cash.

But here’s what that $500 doesn’t include: your time. You have to learn the platform you picked. You have to troubleshoot every inconsistency and every piece that isn’t working the way you expected. You have to write your own website copy and figure out what imagery is actually going to sell your services to the people you want to work with. None of that shows up on a receipt, but it’s real cost.

If you’ve got the tech skills, the patience, and the determination to push through and actually finish, DIY is a genuinely solid option. The only rule: get the site launched. A half-built DIY website helps no one.

Coaching Website Template Costs

A coaching website template typically costs $47 to $1,000 or more, on top of your regular domain and hosting fees. You can buy a pre-made template for Squarespace, Showit, WordPress, Wix, almost any platform, install it, and use it as your design foundation.

It’s a shortcut to something that looks good right out of the gate, and it also gives you a clearer sense of what actually belongs on a coaching website. But it’s still on you to do the legwork: dropping in your copy, your photos, your services, and making the whole thing function.

The catch is that a template isn’t a finished website. You’re still troubleshooting, still building, still responsible for making it all come together. If you’re comfortable with that, templates are a great starting point, especially for a newer coach who doesn’t have their branding fully figured out yet. They let you put a professional foot forward without a semi-custom or custom price tag.

How Much Does a Custom Coaching Website Cost?

A fully custom coaching website typically runs a minimum of $5,000 to $15,000, sometimes more. Custom design is what you’re paying for when you hire a designer to build something from scratch, no templates, nothing reused from another project. Fully custom means no one else’s website will ever look like yours.

That level of originality comes at that price because every piece is being built from nothing, which takes real time, real effort, and real skill to pull off well.

I typically recommend fully custom for more established coaches. Not someone brand new who doesn’t have a client yet and isn’t sure they’re doing this long-term, but someone who’s been at it a while, whether that’s inside coaching or in a related role, and is ready to go pro. It’s for coaches who have the budget to invest and aren’t wondering whether they’ll see a return. They already know they will.

Semi-Custom Website Design: Where It Fits and What It Costs

Semi-custom website design at Lovely Impact runs $3,850 to $6,850 (2026 pricing), depending on what’s included in the package. I saved this option for last because it’s what I actually do, and I wanted you to have the full picture of DIY, templates, and fully custom before explaining where semi-custom fits between them.

Semi-custom means your designer starts from a pre-built foundation, then tailors it to you. At Lovely Impact, that foundation covers:

  • Logo templates
  • Copy structure
  • Design layout

That foundation, built once and refined into a system rather than created from scratch for every client, is what makes semi-custom faster, smoother, and more consistent than fully custom, without losing what matters most: a site that actually looks like you, sounds like you, and represents your business the way it deserves. You get a tailored result at a better price point and a shorter timeline because of it.

Which Website Option Is Right for Your Coaching Business?

Here’s how I actually walk coaches through this decision, based on where they are in their business.

Brand New Coach, Still Finding Your Footing?

Start with a template. Get yourself out there, start writing, start figuring out who you are as a coach before you invest heavier. If tech genuinely isn’t your thing, an entry-level done-for-you package (mine or someone else’s) gets you the basics without the tech overwhelm.

Established Coach, Ready to Look Like It?

Whether that’s six months in or five years in, if you’re ready to move from a DIY look to something that reflects the level you’re actually operating at, semi-custom or fully custom design is where you belong. Those are the sites built to grow with you and expand what you’re able to offer.

Choose the Best Fit for You

So there’s your honest breakdown: DIY, templates, semi-custom, and fully custom, and where each one actually earns its price tag.

If you’d like help with a semi-custom website, I’d love to talk with you. And if you’re taking the DIY route for now, the AI Website Writer can help you write copy that actually sounds like you, without paying for a semi-custom build before you’re ready for one.
