Content Brainstorming Quick Guide: 50 Topics in 15 Minutes

Content Brainstorming

One of the best content brainstorming hacks you could ever use is this method I learned from my friend Kaitlin Fontenot of Kait Studio. She’s a brilliant ecommerce web designer and truly one of the most delightful people on the planet. (She’s also a super prime example of how to build a community around your business if you’re looking for inspiration there.)

But, in true Cass fashion, I’ve taken her method and adjusted it to fit the way I work.

If you’ve been around me at all, you’ll know that all my focus is on client pain points. It’s what I use to drive every decision and message in my business. I spend hours thinking about your pain points and what I can create to help you overcome them.

Getting Started

The first step in this content brainstorming process is to write out 5–10 of your dream clients’ pain points.

For my clients, that would be:

  • Confused on what to post on social
  • Challenged by the tech of running a business
  • Not sure how to market themselves
  • Don’t understand how to build or maintain their website
  • Making themselves crazy trying to choose a niche
  • Frustrated that they don’t have a cohesive brand
  • Scared they aren’t making consistent money
  • Pulling their hair out over how to get consults

Things that cause them pain, right?

Things they definitely want to solve in their business.

Time to Brainstorm

Now it’s time to come up with the actual topics you’ll write about. Because the pain points are far too vague to create a blog or social media post about. You’d never get specific enough to offer any real value to your readers.

So we break it down by pain point.

Now if you came up with 5 pain points in the first step, you need to generate 10 topics for each to hit the grand total of 50. But if you came up with 10 pain points, you only need to brainstorm 5 topics for each. Funny how math works, huh?

I came up with 8 pain points, so I’m going to aim for 6–7 topics for each one.

  • Confused on what to post on social
    • Content mindset
    • Content brainstorming (well would you look at that….this blog post! ?)
    • Types of content you can write for social
    • Finding content inspiration
    • Sharing your story on social
    • Motivation around creating content
  • Challenged by the tech of running a business
    • Why knowing the tech is important
    • How to overcome tech mentally
    • Stop saying you don’t do tech
    • All the kinds of tech you face in your business
    • How my program helps with tech
    • How great it feels to overcome tech
    • Free tips on mastering simple tech you need
  • Not sure how to market themselves
    • What marketing really is…easy
    • 3 free ways to market your biz
    • Great examples of coach marketing
    • Don’t overcomplicate your marketing
    • Only do marketing things you really enjoy doing
    • Creating a simple sales funnel for yourself

I could go on, but I think you get the point.

Using your content brainstorming list

From here, all you have to do is write the content relating to the topics you came up with.

So easy, right?

Lucky for those of you whose brains just started crying, I have some more help to offer you.

If you’re using this brainstorm for social media content, I got you. I share how to write a social media caption in 5 minutes in this post.

And if you’re heading the blog route, this is the post for you: How to plan a blog post in 3 easy steps.

Now it’s up to you to actually take action and write that content. Because without using this information you just read, you’re not really learning it. You’re just absorbing it and staying where you already are.

Get writing, friend.
